WhatsApp dark mode, which appeared to beta users a while ago, is now available to everyone. WhatsApp says that from today everyone can get started with the new dark mode.
WhatsApp dark mode now available to everyone
Since January, users of the WhatsApp beta have been able to get started with dark mode, but now the feature is available to everyone. If your smartphone runs on Android 10, the dark mode of the chat app is automatically activated if you have activated the dark theme of Android. If your device has Android 9.0 (Pie), you can switch on dark mode manually.
First of all, make sure you are running the latest version of WhatsApp. Then follow the steps below to activate the chat app’s dark mode.
- Open WhatsApp and tap the three dots at the top right;
- Tap on ‘Settings’;
- Choose ‘Chats’;
- Tap on ‘Theme’;
- Select the dark theme here.
As you can see, it is always possible to choose a light theme. If you choose ‘System standard’, WhatsApp automatically colors with the theme of Android. The dark mode uses a dark gray instead of black. According to WhatsApp, this is more pleasant and less tiring for your eyes, because the contrast with the white letters is otherwise great.
The dark mode is ideal for chatting with WhatsApp in the evenings, as you will no longer be blinded by the app’s bright interface. In addition, the function gives the chat app a new fresh look, which also ensures that it is completely suitable for Android 10.
The latest version of WhatsApp will be rolled out to all users in the coming days. If you don’t see the update yet, there is no other option than to wait a while. Have you already entered dark mode? Let us know in the comments below!
